Today, where luxury has come to mean so much more than just fancy things, J&Kel The Salon is one of those few places that manages to break all the rules with ease. Top 10 Malaysia got to sit down with Mandy Ong and Kelly Lim—the phenomenal founders behind J&Kel. This interview goes deep into the story of an extraordinary destination that has won the affection of so many Malaysians.
From the outset, J&Kel The Salon was never intended to be just another fine dining establishment. Rather, it’s a world all of its own—a place where you can see top-notch jewellery making, enjoy high-class food and get lost in some amazing stories. “We’re into luxury jewellery, fine dining and curating all the good things in life,” Mandy explains. “With all our experience in making things by hand, building brands and working in the hospitality industry, we thought—why not create a place where all those things come together in one go? A place that’s way more than just a meal out, but a real experience that you’ll never forget.”
Kelly echoes this sentiment, saying that J&Kel was born out of a deep desire to push people’s boundaries. “We wanted to create a place where guests don’t just come in, eat and go look at some nice jewellery,” she says. “We wanted to give them something way more meaningful, a real experience that just happens to be a meal and some exceptional jewellery. Something that lets you really engage with the whole vibe, a story that we’ve put together with our hearts and souls—one that’s actually going to leave you with a lasting impression.”
At the heart of J&Kel The Salon lies a philosophy that is both poetic and precise. “J&Kel was founded on the idea of creating a symphony between jewels and fine dining,” Mandy shares. “It is a unique destination where haute jewellery artistry meets refined gastronomy.”

The vision unfolds in three key areas: a restaurant fine dining experience put together by some of the culinary world’s top chefs, a high-end jewellery gallery displaying bespoke and show-stopping pieces, and a carefully crafted selection of completely private experiences tailored especially for our most discerning customers. Every piece of the puzzle is carefully woven together; nothing is ever left to chance.
“We want to take it all to the next level by creating a dining experience that completely redefines what fine dining is all about, ” Kelly puts it. ” From menus that are virtually works of art to beautiful atmosphere that just wraps itself around you, every little element of J&Kel The Salon has been carefully thought out to give you that sense of pamper.”
Internationally acclaimed chef, author and broadcaster Alan Coxon serves as Chef Consultant and Brand Ambassador at J&Kel The Salon. Renowned for fusing classical technique with global influences, he shapes a creates exquisite narrative that mirrors the salon’s philosophy of harmony between haute jewellery and haute cuisine. Defined by balance, restraint and cultural storytelling, his menus enhance the overall experience—elegant, expressive and quietly memorable.

When asked what really sets J&Kel apart in this super competitive world of high-end dining, the two founders are as clear as day. “We truly come into our own when it’s all about telling a story through what we do,” Mandy says. “Every single dish and jewellery, even every nook & cranny in the space is chosen with the goal of evoking an emotional response in our customers.’
This storytelling is expressed through premium ingredients, artistic presentation and impeccable service, all guided by an overarching narrative of elegance and craftsmanship. “We focus on seamless harmony,” Kelly adds. “It is about how visual beauty, flavour, texture and service come together to create something greater than the sum of its parts.”
Taking this sort of holistic approach let J&Kel stand out as more than just a fancy restaurant or a showcase for beautiful things. “For us it’s all about creating this immersive experience,” Mandy says, “one that really lingers long after the night is over.”
What really sets J&Kel The Salon apart from all the other players in the game is their refusal to be bound by the usual rules. “We bring together jewels, good food, art and hospitality, then turn it all into one seamless experience,” Kelly says. “Guests don’t just come in here to eat or shop, they get wrapped up in this whole narrative about elegance, craftsmanship and feeling something deep.”

Mandy adds that this fusion is both rare and intentional. “Luxury today is about depth and meaning. By bringing these disciplines together, we can create an experience that feels intimate, refined and deeply personal.”
As J&Kel continues to gain recognition, the founders remain focused on thoughtful growth rather than rapid expansion. “We plan to further elevate the brand through curated seasonal menus, exclusive collaborations and amazing experiences,” Kelly shares.
Selective regional expansion is on the cards, but that’s not the priority. “Our focus remains on quality over quantity,” Mandy stresses. “Every J&Kel experience must remain intimate, refined and unforgettable.”
This disciplined approach reflects the founders’ belief that true luxury cannot be mass-produced, instead, it must be carefully crafted.
As founders, Mandy and Kelly describe their leadership style as ‘vision-led yet people-centric’. “We believe in empowering our team, fostering creativity and leading with clarity and integrity,” Mandy says.
Kelly adds that the secret to success is balance. “It is achieved when passion, discipline and mutual respect coexist. When people feel valued and inspired, the results follow naturally.”
Supporting this vision operationally is David Thoong, Operations Director of J&Kel The Salon. Working closely with the founders, he plays a crucial role in translating ambition into execution while ensuring the brand’s growth remains aligned with its founding principles. With his people-first leadership, David manages multiple departments with clarity and empathy, firmly believing that empowered teams are the foundation of sustainable success.
Together, this leadership dynamic ensures that J&Kel operates with both precision and heart, where strategic excellence and human connection move in unison. It is this balance that allows the brand to uphold exceptional standards while nurturing a culture of creativity, accountability and shared purpose.
Launching a concept as unique as J&Kel was certainly a challenge. “Trying to harmonise a load of different luxury elements into one seamless experience was not easy,” Kelly admits, “there were sky-high expectations, operational complexities and the constant ever-present pressure to deliver perfection.”
Yet, these challenges proved formative. “They really made us dig deep and work out how to do things better,” Mandy reflects. “Every obstacle pushed us to level up our standards even further.”
At the heart of Mandy and Kelly’s leadership is a shared belief that luxury should be more than beautiful, it should be meaningful. “Our inspiration comes from the belief that luxury should be emotional and memorable,” Mandy says.
For aspiring leaders in the luxury and hospitality industries, Mandy and Kelly have some advice that comes from experience. “Stay authentic to your vision and be patient with growth,” Mandy advises. “Quality should always come first.”
Kelly concludes with a reminder of purpose. “Innovation should be about adding real value, not trends. Lead with humility and respect—for both people and craft.”
As J&Kel The Salon continues to push the boundaries of luxury in Malaysia and beyond, one thing is certain: Mandy Ong and Kelly Lim are not merely building a brand. They are creating a real symphony of elegance, emotion and excellence – one experience at a time.
